In what could be one of the first United States Government approved voyages to Cuba since the Cuban Embargo was put in place in the 1960s, the Hemingway International Yacht Club (HIYC) and Cuba's National Sailing Team has invited the Sarasota Yacht Club (SYC) to participate in an offshore sailing race near Havana. Citing SYC's distinguished nautical heritage and restoring a 70 year-old  international tradition Jose Diaz Escrich, Vice President of the Cuba Sailing Federation and Commodore of the HIYC, issued an invitation to the SYC to host the Florida-Cuba race.
